Hints and Tips to Polish Off Your Entry in the 2024 Event Awards

Fun Fact: Did you know that the average person can type at a speed of 50 words per minute?

With each of our categories requiring approx. 2600 words, you could be done in less than an hour! (Yes, our math is correct – 2600 words / 50 words per minute = 52 minutes).

Of course, it might take you a little extra time to submit your very best entry possible but you still have buckets of time to start & finish your entry.

In recognition of Australians working overseas and in different timezones, as well as those travelling and adventuring to foreign lands, we’re leaving the entry portal open for a few extra hours to allow all entrants to put the finishing touches on their entries and make sure it’s submitted before the portal closes.

Entries for the 2024 Event Awards will close on Tuesday 6 August at 9:00am AEST.

Address the Judging Criteria

It's down to you to really demonstrate to the Judges why you're the winning entry...here are some quick tips on what the judges look for and why they've included it in the category judging criteria:

Innovation is important: They want to know what you've done that is new or gives you a competitive edge in the market.

Quality and Industry Excellence: How did your event or achievement pave the way for a new benchmark in leading the industry and demonstrating what the Australian Events Industry can do?

Acknowledge the difficulties: The judges assess what you achieved with the resources you had and in the context of your environment and circumstances - tell them the challenges you encountered, whether budgetary, logistical or something else.

Working Unplugged?

The Event Awards have downloadable entry forms allowing you to work anywhere at anytime on your entry. To access the online forms, head to the portal, log in (or create a new user....it's free and obligation free) and click 'Downloads' from the menu.

Just make sure you upload all your content to the ONLINE entry form before the close of entries on 6 August 2024.

Handy tip: forget the formatting - bullet points, italics, bold font, fancy fonts and so forth aren't accepted in the entry form so you can save the time - just focus on the content itself!

Finish Entry

Evidence is King

It is very much a case of "show, don't tell" when it comes to the big claims in your entry. Survey your stakeholders and attendees post-event, collect any glowing reports from local or national media, count all your ticket stubs and share them with the judges in your entry. Statistics, testimonials, surveys, photos and video all prove to the judges that your event is worthy of contention as one of the best in Australia. We have provided specific space in the entry form to include evidence and upload testimonials - make sure you take advantage of it!
