Julie Turpie GAICD is a highly accomplished executive leader with more than 30 years’ experience across major events, festivals, tourism, destination marketing, business development, sponsorship, commercial partnerships and public sector governance.
As General Manager, Events at Destination NSW, Julie led NSW’s major event attraction, acquisition and development activity, including development and implementation of the NSW Major Events Strategy 2030. She was responsible for building and retaining a strategic pipeline of high-value events that delivered visitor economy outcomes, strengthened destination profile and maximised economic, strategic and social benefits for NSW.
Julie has led the strategic planning, creative development and delivery of major event portfolios spanning more than 100 events annually, including the internationally recognised Vivid Sydney, Australia’s largest annual event.
With senior leadership experience across Destination NSW, Museums of History NSW and Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Julie brings deep practical knowledge of event strategy, acquisition, delivery and evaluation across government, cultural, tourism and commercial contexts. She is recognised for developing collaborative industry relationships, leading complex partnerships and delivering events that create lasting value for destinations, communities and audiences.
Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from The University of Edinburgh’s Moray House School of Education and Sport and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
