Major Announcement - State & Territory Winners

With four weeks to go until the close of entries for 2013, The Australian Event Awards has announced the introduction of State and Territory Winners in each of its 10 ‘Best Event’ categories adding a potential 70 additional events to its stable of winners and increasing the chances of success for every entrant.

John Allen, Founding Director of the Australian Centre for Event Management at UTS and co-chair of the Industry Judging Panel said, “The national events industry is bigger than many people imagine. There are literally thousands of individuals working around the clock to produce hundreds of excellent events across Australia each year. With the new State and Territory Winners the Event Awards are offering official recognition to a much larger number of events and the people who work on them. In particular, there is now a real opportunity for smaller events to take centre stage in their State or Territory.”

The new winners will be awarded using the existing national entry process which means that people who have already started their entry as well as any new entrants are automatically in the running to receive the State and Territory Awards. It also means there is no additional cost to be considered for the new awards. “It’s a fairly simple process,” said Ian Steigrad, Managing Director of the Awards. “Essentially we take all the events entered in a category, and rank them by the score awarded by the Industry Judging Panel with the category winner at the top. The event that ranks highest in each State or Territory will be the winner in that State or Territory. For example for Best Community Event, we’ll now have Best Community Event WA, Best Community Event SA etc as well as the National Winner.”

State and Territory winners will be announced with their national counterparts at the Events Industry Night of Nights on 19th of November. Each State and Territory Winner will receive a certificate of achievement and marketing kit to assist them in promoting their achievement.

Organisers claim that the State and Territory Awards will also assist in raising the quality of Events around Australia. Former Olympic Chief and co-chair of the Industry Judging Panel Sandy Hollway said, “Hopefully, the opportunity to win in an individual State or Territory will encourage more events to enter the Awards. If they do, more events will be entitled to have their practices reviewed by our expert panel and receive feedback. In this way the Event Awards can have a really positive impact on the quality of Australian Events and ensure that Australia remains a global leader in the field.”

Entries for the 2013 Australian Event Awards are now open and will close on 9th September. If you begin your entry before 16th August you will receive a special discounted rate. With 70 additional winners it is the perfect time to enter and be recognised for your achievement.
