The Events Sector Manager for Australia Pacific talks about the diversity of Aggreko's projects, the best advice he's received about working in the events industry and why Aggreko chose to support Best New Event at the Event Awards.

What do you do at Aggreko?

I'm the Events Sector Manager, Australia Pacific – I am responsible for looking after all our event clients, helping them to deliver seamless and efficient events that have a great impact on customers. I work with companies from around the world, particularly within the Australia Pacific region on events ranging from major motion pictures, to concert series to large sporting events and festivals of all sizes.

Give us a little peek at your career background before your current role at Aggreko.

I have had an extensive working career starting as a shipwright completing my trade in 1991, followed by a stint in the Royal Australian Navy as a Marine Technical Sailor, after which I went on to manage Marinas in Sydney Harbour. I then made the move to Brisbane where I started in the generator hire industry and eventually took on a role as Hire Manager, where I was thrust into the event industry. I then moved to Aggreko to take on my current role of Events Sector Manager and I haven’t looked back.

What’s your favourite Australian event and why?

I have worked on some fantastic events during my career from major motion pictures to television shows, sporting events and festivals. But one that stands out for me was supplying and installing chillers to build an ice rink on one of Australia’s most iconic beaches - Bondi.

The name 'Aggreko' is derived from the Dutch word "aggregaat", meaning generator, and the surname of the company’s founder, Mr. Koopmans.
